Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS)
Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) is a common disorder that produces intestinal symptoms. Symptoms can be mild to debilitating, depending on the person.
IBS affects twice as many women as men and is more commonly seen in people younger than 45 years old. This condition can make simple everyday activities difficult for some people.
IBS can cause bloating, gas, cramping, diarrhea, constipation, abdominal pain, or change in bowel habits. Some people will have constipation while others will have diarrhea or vacillate between the two.
Some people may have specific triggers that can make their IBS symptoms worse, such as specific foods or a stressful situation. Others may experience the symptoms without being able to identify any contributing factors at all. IBS can be difficult to manage and cause quite a bit of daily discomfort. We have found that most IBS type symptoms have a combination of contributing factors, so we use a combination of treatment options to address it.
Wouldn’t it be great to not have to worry about what you are eating and to start diversifying your diet instead of restricting it to avoid IBS symptoms? We have found that the best approach in treating IBS symptoms is to address any food sensitivities and strengthen the gut microbiome with a gut restoration program. We also use acupuncture and herbs to strengthen the digestive system as well.
